Winnipeg - April 8, 2020 -- The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) has just posted another new guided virtual tour (link below), designed as a way for people who are homebound during the COVID-19 pandemic to explore the Museum. Filmed on March 31, this is the second tour installment to be featured online since the Museum temporarily closed its doors on March 14.
In this 10-minute video, follow a Museum guide up glowing, alabaster ramps to the 7th-floor "Inspiring Change" gallery. You'll see a "yarn-bombed" tree representing awareness efforts by grandmothers of AIDS orphans in South Africa, music listening stations and a "Join the Conversation" station where visitors leave their own inspiring messages. Then travel up the glass elevator to the Israel Asper Tower of Hope observation platform for panoramic views of Winnipeg. The Museum has also developed or re-packaged several other online features, including Share Your Story (launched last week); Discover the Spirit Panels, which examines the Indigenous artworks on its circular "basket" theatre; Be an Upstander interactive educational resource for students; and a feature-length documentary film about the making of the Witness Blanket, an artwork made from pieces of Indian residential schools that is currently being conserved at the CMHR.
